
The extreme temperatures in Romania over 20-27 January 2010 have killed more than 40 persons who died because of severe hypothermia.
Tens of trains were cancelled, tens of schools were temporarily closed and an energy emergency was declared.
Temperatures dropped to minus 26 degrees Celsius in the eastern, northern and south-eastern parts of the country.
According to the weather forecast for the next days, temperatures will come closer to those considered normal for the winter time.
